League International Appoints New Executive Director
La Leche League International,
the oldest and largest breastfeeding mother support organization,
has announced the appointment of Hedy Nuriel as Executive Director.
Ms. Nuriel formerly served
as President/CEO of HAVEN, a multi-service county-wide organization
for victims and perpetrators of child abuse, sexual assault and domestic
violence in Oakland County, Michigan.
The mother of two breast-fed
children, Nuriel first became acquainted with La Leche League as a
young mother in Israel and has been an active proponent of breastfeeding
and La Leche League ever since.
The new head of La Leche
League International holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from the
University of Michigan. She is a certified social worker in Michigan
and has held senior leadership positions with several nonprofit agencies
for over 20 years.
"It is wonderful to
belong to an organization that helps so many mothers and babies. I
look forward to many years of spreading the word of the importance
of breastfeeding," said Ms. Nuriel.
The headquarters office
of La Leche League International is in Schaumburg, Illinois. La Leche
League was founded in 1956 by seven Chicago-area women and has grown
into an international organization with members in over sixty countries.
Over 7,200 accredited Leaders world wide are helping mothers
breastfeed their babies through monthly meetings, by telephone or
email and by working with health care professionals
LLLI, a nonprofit organization,
reaching over 300,000 women each month, publishes materials for parents
and professionals and offers information in 23 languages and English
