Physicians to learn latest
about breastfeeding at seminar hosted by La Leche League International,
AAP and ACOG

(July 1, 1998)--Physicians from around the world will gather at the
La Leche League International (LLLI) 26th Annual Seminar for Physicians,
co-sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) at the Hilton of Santa
Fe, Santa Fe, New Mexico, July 23-25 to learn the latest on breastfeeding
research and lactation management.
Topics to be presented include
maternal benefits of breastfeeding, long term benefits of breastfeeding,
working with pre-term infants, pacifiers and herbs, and the new AAP
Policy Statement on Human Milk and Breastfeeding.
Among the 14 experts presenting
research and workshops are Dr. John T. Queenan, Georgetown University
Hospital; Dr. Miriam H. Labbok, Agency for International Development;
Alfredo Pisacane, University of Naples, Italy; Dr. Ruth A. Lawrence,
University of Rochester School of Medicine, and Ronald Vogel of the
USDA. The program is moderated by Dr. Lawrence Gartner of The University
of Chicago and head of the AAP Work Group on Breastfeeding. The Chairman
of the Program Committee is Dr. Edward R. Newton, University of East
Carolina School of Medicine, Greenville, North Carolina. This 26th seminar
is regarded as a premiere learning opportunity for health care providers.
