care practices factors that affect the occurrence of Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome: Interview conducted by public health nurses." Tanaka

In examining the child rearing and environmental factors which lead to SIDS in Japanese infants, it was found that several components showed a significant relationship with sudden infant death. From death certificates between January 1996 through June 1997, as compared with controls, the following practices impacted on the rate of SIDS: The prone-sleeping position was a greater risk factor for SIDS than the supine position. Artificial feeding showed a higher risk for SIDS than breastfeeding, with odds ratio of 4.92 (95% c.i. 2.78-9.63). Increased risk was apparent when both parents used tobacco products.
