This research paper, written in France, documents the successful outcome in reduction mammaplasty when the surgery is done during adolescence. Special attention must be given to the preservation of breast function when RM is done when the patient is 15-17 years old. 12.5% of all reductions are done on adolescents, who have concerns about their body image, and may not consider the likelihood of breastfeeding in the future as this decision is typically made during pregnancy. Providing adequate information as to the possibility of breastfeeding to these adolescents is essential, as they can expect to be able to nurse their future children under the same conditions as the general population.
