The OnLLLine Chronicle is a free monthly e-newsletter from La Leche League International, an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. 1. NEW ON THE LLLI WEB SITE
The La Leche League Web site brings you breastfeeding information, news from LLLI and much more -- here's what we've added in the past month or so:
*Information on LLLI's latest publications is now available. Learn about BECOMING A FATHER, Revised edition, in which Dr William Sears explores fatherhood and addresses common questions and concerns, and ADVENTURES IN TANDEM NURSING, by Hilary Flower here: http://www.lalecheleague.org/books/pubs.html
*Russian is the latest language in which we now have information on the LLLI Web site. We are very excited to have this new information available to help mothers who speak Russian and Chinese.

2. LLLI AND LLL IN GUATEMALA FEATURED IN MAGAZINE
LLLI and LLL Guatemala in are in the latest edition of "Perspectives in Health" Magazine. The magazine "Perspectives in Health" is produced by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) with wide distribution in English and Spanish. The article, "Rescuing the Art of Breastfeeding", in the latest edition gives an excellent overview of LLLI, LLL Guatemala and the Peer Counselor Program. The article was a joint effort between LLLI/Schaumburg and LLLI Guatemala, and written by Maria del Mar Mazza, who volunteers for LLLI.

3. US BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO BE PREVIEWED AT LA LECHE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Be prepared for the extra attention breastfeeding will be receiving with the launch of the National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign beginning later this year.
Dr. Suzanne Haynes will talk about the upcoming Ad Council campaign, the National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign, that is sure to generate unparalleled enthusiasm as the US Department of Health and Human Services along with breastfeeding advocates nationwide publicize the risks of not breastfeeding. The campaign will reach out to mothers who are unlikely to decide to breastfeed and will encourage exclusive breastfeeding for six months.

4. STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR THE LLLI CONFERENCE JULY 3-6 2003 IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA USA
If you are an LLL Leader, please remind those in your area that LLLI Conference registration should be completed on line or faxed in by June 20 . It may also be mailed so that it is received by June 20. On-site registration will be available at the Conference.
Leaders who have been accredited since the last LLLI Conference will be recognized in a special way. Please tell them that they may want to come as soon as possible to the PR Room, the Green Room, on the Grand Ballroom Level to register for a free raffle of LLLI books, to sign up on a first-come, first-served basis to sit at a table with one of the Founders for a luncheon, and to receive a small gift.
We will also have press releases for all Leaders to take home with them for their local newspapers.
Between July 1-6, 2003, please contact the Hilton San Francisco, 415-771-1400 and ask for the Green Room.
5. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT AT THE LLLI CONFERENCE!!!
At the LLLI Conference, You will learn about important new Research, take action on global breastfeeding issues, and return to your community with tools and resources to advance your work!
If you want to find out how to use the powerful tool of nonviolent communication, be sure to attend opening night. If you want to learn how to clean and organize your house fifteen minutes at a time, sign up for session 312. Perhaps you want to have the happiest baby on the block (session 313) or find out about commonly used herbs (session 303). Maybe you would like to find out how to pay for your child's college education (session 124).
What if you are interested in meeting the well-respected researcher who knows the scoop about HIV and breastfeeding (session 218)? How about attending a session and actually taking practical steps to ensure one breastfeeding world (sign up for any Global Issues session)? What if you would like to bring your life in balance (session 205)?
If you are an RN, RD or IBCLC and want continuing education credits, sign up for any session labeled CE, advanced or basic. 6. VISIT THE TECHNOLOGY ROOM FOR THE LATEST ON BREASTFEEDING AND THE INTERNET OR EXPERIENCE THE LLLI CONFERENCE ONLINE
For the third conference in a row, the LLLI Online Communications Department is sponsoring a Technology Room at the LLLI Conference. This year, it will be conveniently located right near the exhibits!
The Technology Room is unique in that you can participate even if you do not attend the conference (of course, we want ot see you there!). We will be hosting online chats with many of the conference speakers, as well as other LLL representatives and interesting folks -- anyone can attend from the privacy of their own homes! Check out our schedule and mark your calendars to spend some time virtually attending the LLLI Conference.
Those not attending the conference will also enjoy the online diaries we will share from various perspectives on the events, sessions and activities in San Francisco, as well as conference photos and other highlights.
Those at the conference can visit the room and watch us creating the Web pages and hosting the chats, live. The chats will be displayed on a large screen to attendees can follow along. We will also have demonstrations of various online LLL projects, such as the BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK CD ROM, The Breastfeeding Resource Marketplace, and more. Come meet our staff and see your online friends at the Technology Room!
7. POSTER PRESENTATIONS AT THE LLLI CONFERENCE
While at the Conference don't forget to stop by and take a look at the poster presentations, located in the West Lounge on the B-Ballroom level, and learn about many exciting breastfeeding projects, programs and studies happening around the world. The 2003 Conference is pleased to showcase poster presentations from USA, Nigeria, Kenya, Paraguay, India, Brazil, Canada, Peru, Mexico, Switzerland, Australia, and Great Britain.
Poster presentations will also be featured on Friday, July 4th, in Session no. 125, at 7:00-8:30 PM, when selected poster authors will share information about their respective poster and then session attendees will work together to develop actions that will further the work and activities that have been presented. There will be two time slots, 4:30 to 6:30 PM on Friday, July 4, and from 4:30 to 6:30 PM on Saturday, July 5, during which poster presenters will be available to talk about their presentations and answer questions.
If you are not attending the LLLI Conference, be sure and learn about the poster presentations online, by reading the abstracts that were submitted at http://www.lalecheleague.org/03conf/poster.html (at the time of this writing the abstracts were not up yet, but they will be VERY soon).
8. QUILT TO BE RAFFLED AT LLLI CONFERENCE
La Leche League International's International Division has made a beautiful quilt, which will be raffled off at the LLLI Conference. Everyone is invited to buy raffle tickets. To see the quilt and learn more about the raffle, visit this page:
Proceeds from the quilt raffle will be used to fund Leaders in the International Division to attend International, Regional and Area conferences and enrichment meetings.

10. LEADER RECOGNITION PLANS FOR THE LLLI CONFERENCE
The LLLI Alumnae Association would like to remind all Leaders of 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, and 20 years to stop in the California Room to pick up your Leader Recognition pin for the appropriate number of years of service you have given to LLL. These pins are provided for all Leaders at the LLLI Conference through the generosity of the Switzer family. A special honoring of all Leaders of 25 years of more is planned for the Afternoon Tea on Friday, July 4th, hosted by the Alumnae Association. You won't want to miss this event, with special music and reminiscing by the LLL Founders!
11. VOLUNTEERS -- THERE'S STILL TIME
There's still time.... to volunteer with the Alumnae Association at the LLLI Conference! We have opportunities for multilingual volunteers, for box movers and room arrangers, for hostesses and sign hangers, and all-round helpers with the Rejuvenation Sessions in the California Room! To reserve your spot, contact Meg Sondey as soon as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org. Volunteer opportunities begin on Monday, June 30th and continue through Monday, July 7th. 12. LLLI ALUMNAE DONATION DRAWING
The prize list for the LLLI Alumnae Donation Drawing at the LLLI Conference continues to grow! The latest addition is a beautiful print, donated by LLLI Conference Speaker, artist Helen Redman -- it is a collage of many different hands, of all nationalities -- old, young, male, female, "HAND MANDALA WITH BUTTERFLIES", valued at $400. A handcrafted queen-size quilt, silver jewelry purchased on the Alum Grand Canyon hike in 2002, baskets (a work or art!) made by a Native American tribe in that same area, and many other prizes will be on display in the California Room (Alumnae Headquarters) at the LLLI Conference. You may also purchase tickets there, as well as from many Alumnae volunteers.

Our listing of World Walk for Breastfeeding events around the world is growing daily. Please remember to send in your Walk information so we can list it on the LLLI Web site -- we hear many reports of walkers and donations that have come from these listings!

14. VISIT LLLI PUBLICATIONS ROOM AT THE CONFERENCE, IN UNION SQUARE ROOM 12
Authors Peggy O'Mara; Diana West, IBCLC; Nancy Mohbacher, IBCLC; and Hilary Flower; will speak at special LLLI Conference sessions. Peggy O'Mara will team up with author Hilary Flower to speak on the joys and challenges of tandem nursing. Peggy wrote the foreword for LLLI's new book, ADVENTURES IN TANDEM NURSING, which was written by Hilary and excerpted in the May-June 2000 issue of NEW BEGINNINGS. Diana West, IBCLC and author of DEFINING YOUR OWN SUCCESS will speak on assisting mother to breasteed after reduction surgery and on increasing and maximizing the milk supply. Nancy Mohbracher, IBCLC, and co-author of the BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK, will provide an overview of what's new in breastfeeding research. Meet the authors and hear what they have to say. Check for times and titles of sessions at the conference.
