Issue #20, April 2004

The OnLLLine Chronicle is a free monthly e-newsletter from La Leche League International, an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. We will share updates on LLLI's activities, new products, and other breastfeeding-related news. Thank you for subscribing, and we hope you enjoy our news and information!

*We are very pleased to announce that our web page collection on current legislation in the US regarding breastfeeding has been updated as of this month. This is one of our most popular pages with our visitors! We will be revising and updating other legal information in the coming months, while keeping many of the still-valuable articles written by the late Liz Baldwin.

*Our online catalogue is completely updated for 2004, and our sale page has new items and prices listed. Check them all out at or learn more about our print catalogues in #7 below. The next project we are working on is an all-new online store, which will be easier to use and order from. More news as it happens!

To find all these, look at our collection of local LLL Web pages:

The conference will be held 1 - 4 July in Cape Town, South Africa. The theme is "Breastfeeding: the Golden Opportunity to Nurture the Nation." (which fits in well with the WABA 2004 theme of "Exclusive Breastfeeding, the Gold Standard: Safe, Sound, Sustainable)."

We believe it's very cost effective for overseas visitors, if they can combine it with a South African holiday too, since the conference fees before accommodation would be under US$200, or even less depending on options taken, and some well known international speakers will be there.

1 July is taken up with Communication Skills Training, 9 hours.
2 - 4 July is for the conference sessions.

Speakers include:

*Ted Greiner, WABA HIV Task Force and 2003 winner of LLLI award: Protecting breastfeeding in the light of HIV; also Vit D and iron for breastfed babies

*Kittie Frantz, IBCLC USA: Latching and Sucking Problems; also Baby Assessment

*Ros Escott, IBCLC Australia: Oxytocin; also Mothers as Lovers
