2. MORE THAN BREASTFEEDING: LLLI'S CONFERENCE TO OFFER SESSIONS ON PARENTING
La Leche League International Conferences are well known for their continuing medical education sessions. It is, perhaps, less well known that in addition to evidence-based breastfeeding sessions, these conferences also include interesting and cutting-edge sessions on parenting.
For example, Barbara Colorosa, MA will present two sessions at the LLLI Conference: Children and Ethics, the topic of one of her soon-to-be published books and Bullies, Victims, and Bystanders, the topic of one of her best-sellers. Barbara's talk will resonate with clarity, honesty, and insight. Her practical information will be presented in an interesting and inspiring format. She will draw on her decades of working with youth and her worldwide experience with conflict resolution. Ms. Colorosa is a sought-after speaker and prolific author of international best sellers.
Dr. Linda S. Budd will present a parenting session on Living with the Active Alert Child. Throughout the past thirty years, Dr. Budd has developed a way to think about active, curious, energetic, creative, and fearful children she calls "active alerts," previously referred to as "difficult" children. They are more challenging to parents than the children described in most books, but they are not children who fit many clinical criteria, such as attention deficit disorder. Dr. Budd will present groundbreaking strategies for parents as she talks about parenting these children. She is the author of Living with the Active Alert Child.
Other parenting speakers will discuss how to connect with boys and empower girls, practical ways to create a calm and happy home, the gentle art of discipline, making sense of adolescence, the importance of parents, and lessons on the art of fathering from the game of baseball. You will leave the parenting sessions better prepared to be the kind of parent you want to be.
La Leche League International's 19th International Breastfeeding Conference, Breastfeeding: Ancient Art, Modern Miracle, will be held at the Hilton Washington and Towers, Washington, DC, USA July 2-5, 2005.
For a more complete list of sessions and speakers, visit LLLI's Web site at www.lalecheleague.org
