2. BREASTFEEDING PROTECTION INITIATIVE MATERIALS AVAILABLE IN SPANISH
La Leche League International and Lansinoh today announce the expansion of The Breastfeeding Protection Initiative by offering a Spanish version of the Encourage, Support, Protect Breastfeeding cause bracelet. Since being launched in June 2005, over 18,000 English breastfeeding bracelets have been sold. All proceeds from the sale of both the English and Spanish bracelets are going to La Leche League International, who are using the funds to educate and raise awareness of breastfeeding rights around the world. As with the English language bracelets, all proceeds from the purchase of the Spanish language bracelets will go toward expanding efforts to inform more people about breastfeeding rights and to provide them with the tools they need to become a force for change in their community. In fact, funds raised through the sale of the English language bracelets were used to finance the production of the Spanish bracelets.
To read the English press release on the new bracelets, visit http://lalecheleague.org/donor/spanishBPIrelease.pdf or in Spanish, visit http://lalecheleague.org/donor/spanish_bracelet__translatedFINAL.pdf -- to learn more about the Breastfeeding Protection Initiative or buy bracelets, visit
3. NEW MESSAGE BOARDS COMING TO LLLI WEB SITE!
The La Leche League International web services department has just received a donation of new message board (bulletin board/bbs) software. We are configuring the system now, and look forward to bringing a new online community to the parents we support. Our working and breastfeeding forum has been very popular over the past 7 years, even with its limitations and "unique features" (such as dates that are not Y2K compatible). The new message board system will have a full set of features, new topics and an easy to use interface that will be familiar to many bulletin board junkies. Come check it out early in 2006 -- we will have a prominent link to the bulletin board on our home page and our "breastfeeding information" main page.
4. HOLIDAY IDEAS FROM THE LLLI ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION
The LLLI Alumnae Association would like to call your attention to our Web site and some of the features that might interest you, in light of the upcoming holidays. The "Alum Fun" section of the Web site offers family gift ideas, favorite recipes, as well as other stories and memories. You can find this section of the Web site at http://www.lalecheleague.org/Alumnae/AlumFun.htm
These pages are for everyone, not just Alumnae Association members. We certainly encourage any past or present League Leaders or members to join the Association, though, by going to www.lalecheleague.org/Join.html
If you want to share your ideas, please fill out an online form or send a message directly to firstname.lastname@example.org.
5. INNOCENTI CELEBRATION
Hedy Nuriel, Executive Director, La Leche League International (LLLI) and Rebecca Magalhães, Dir., LLLI External Relations and Advocacy, traveled to Florence Italy and represented LLLI at the conference on 21-22 of November that celebrated the 15th Anniversary of the Innocenti Declaration on the Promotion, Protection and Support of Breastfeeding. In addition to having an LLLI table with organizational materials for display and distribution, Hedy and Rebecca participated in onsite meetings to work on the text of the 2005 Innocenti Declaration, presented the Proclamation Scroll, signed by Leaders and others at the LLLI 19th International Conference, to the President of the Tuscany Region to be placed in the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre (IRC), and Hedy, Rebecca and Marian Tompson signed the Participants 2005 Innocenti Declaration. For more information about the 15th Anniversary, the conference and future publications and activities please go to the Innocenti 15 web site http://innocenti15.net/ where you can also sign the guest book and submit your thoughts and comments on breastfeeding promotion, protection and support.
6. 2004 US BREASTFEEDING STATISTICS
The Center for Breastfeeding Information (CBI) at LLLI has a link to the new 2004 Breastfeeding Statistics from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on its Additional Resources page. The CBI is one of the world's largest libraries of information on breastfeeding, human lactation and related topics. See what new and interesting data we have prepared at http://lalecheleague.org/cbi/additional.html or to go directly to the statistics, visit: http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/data/NIS_data/data_2004.htm
7. SUPPORT A VARIETY OF BREASTFEEDING PROJECTS VIA LATCHON.ORG
December is known as the month of generosity and giving. Therefore we approach you with the request to visit http://www.LatchOn.org. LatchOn.org is a Web site connecting people who want to promote breastfeeding, nutrition, childbirth, and successful parenting with donors who have the resources to make those things happen. Projects are described in detail and many provide reports on the progress of the project. As a potential donor, you are invited to browse the projects and then select a project you would like to contribute funds to. Projects are submitted from communities in the United States and throughout the world. With your donation, specific life-changing goals could be achieved. All donations are tax deductible, for those living in the United States.
So visit http://www.LatchOn.org, check out our newest projects, and see if any of them appeal to you. Thanks to the generosity of donors, many projects are well on their way to completing their mission!

8. CELEBRATE BREASTFEEDING, BECAUSE YOU CARE!
As you enjoy holiday celebrations with family and friends, please help La Leche League continue its important work in the world with a donation to the year-end appeal. Donate online at: www.lalecheleague.org/donor/html.
As one donor expressed: "Our family is most grateful for all the enriching knowledge that we have gained through LLL…our donation is a reflection of our hearts and the love and passion we have for breastfeeding and LLLI."
Heartfelt thanks to all!
9. END OF THE YEAR APPEAL LETTER IN SPANISH
For the second time in 2005 (the first time was in the Spring) La Leche League International has sent out an Appeal Letter in Spanish. The slogan for the End of the Year Appeal was: "La Liga de la Leche Internacional cuida a la comunidad hispana" (La Leche League International Cares about the Hispanic Community).
The great diversity and rapid growth of the Hispanic population in the United States has prompted new research on this important minority group, resulting in the development of new approaches to provide them with access to health services. LLLI has become increasingly aware of the need to provide breastfeeding services that are culturally appropriate and sensitive to the diversity of pregnant and breastfeeding Hispanic women.
If you would like to collaborate with the LLLI programs and services that benefit the Hispanic community, please visit this link: http://www.lalecheleague.org/Lang/appeal.html
10. DON'T FORGET! SUPPORT LLLI WHENEVER YOU SHOP AT AMAZON.COM
Shop the same way...Donate a different way! Your editor generated over $20 for La Leche League just by purchasing gifts for family and friends in the past month! Read on to learn how!
La Leche League International signed on with a new service called FreePledge in October. FreePledge is an e-commerce web site devoted to help nonprofit organizations raise money by donating a percentage of online purchases. The FreePledge program gives our organization an additional source of revenue at no cost to you or us! By leveraging a marketing program set up by Amazon, one of the world's largest online retailers, FreePledge turns a percentage of everyday shopping into donations for your favorite charity. Your online purchases like books, videos, CDs, and electronics can support LLLI. (Of course we hope you will still buy LLLI books directly from us, but there are so many other things you can get from Amazon.) FreePledge assures you of the simplest online shopping experience: no membership, no obligation, and no cost to you. The actual purchases go through Amazon and you receive the same great service. You may visit http://llli.freepledge.com/, shop as if you would shop on Amazon directly, and a portion of your purchases will go to support mothers and babies through LLLI.
11. KATRINA ACT MAKES MORE OF US DONATIONS DEDUCTIBLE
In the USA, the Katrina Act provides special window of opportunity for donors -- donate by December 31, 2005 and all your donations, including your generous contributions to LLLI, will be deductible on your income taxes. Under the new law, donations made between August 28 and December 31, 2005 to qualified charities, like La Leche League International, qualify for special tax treatment. Taxpayers may deduct charitable contributions up to 100% of their adjusted gross income, up from 50%. Donations do not need to relate to hurricane relief to qualify, and may be for any amount. Revisit the topic of charitable giving with your tax advisor before December 31st to take advantage of this special opportunity. Your support is deeply appreciated!
