*LLLI has purchased new chat software, thanks to donations from generous readers of this newsletter. It will be uploaded and operational very soon. In the meantime, we encourage breastfeeding mothers to check out the chats we are holding now!
2. FINALLY -- SOME GOOD ECONOMIC NEWS!
Attending the La Leche League International Conference in San Francisco, may be cheaper than you thought.
Double rooms at the San Francisco Hilton will only be $150 -- NOT $190 as listed in the La Leche League International Registration booklet. There is a 14.05% sales charge and $20 for each additional person.
The Hilton San Francisco policy is that children stay free when occupying the same room as their parents or grandparents.
By staying at the Hilton San Francisco-you benefit from being steps away from Union Square Shopping, historic cable cars, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, and world famous dining. The hotel is at a transportation hub where boats, subways, cable cars, buses, and historic trolleys can take you to such diverse destinations as Alcatraz and Golden Gate Park.
By staying at the official Conference hotel, you also benefit from around-the-clock (or at least as long as your energy prevails) networking opportunities, wonderful hotel amenities, and convenience. By staying at the official Conference hotel you also benefit La Leche League International which is given free meeting space when a certain number of hotel rooms are occupied for the Conference.
Caution needs to be taken when registering at other hotels in San Francisco since some areas of the city are safer than others.
Remember when you attend the LLLI Conference:you will feel supported in your breastfeeding and parenting;you will meet with a worldwide community committed to breastfeeding;you will learn about important new research, and, as a bonus, you will discover San Francisco, the beautiful city by the bay.
3. Time to Lace Up Those Walking Shoes
In the midst of North America's winter it might be difficult to envision that it is time to begin plans for the World Walk for Breastfeeding. World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from August 1-7.
One way La Leche League International celebrates this week is through the World Walk for Breastfeeding. Many Walks are held in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week, but other Walks are held around the globe from late spring until early autumn.
La Leche League Leaders will soon be receiving the World Walk Registration post cards. If you are interested in a participating in a Walk in your area or you would like to sponsor a Walker, please email either Mary Hurt at PRAssociate at llli.org or Mary Lofton, PRManager at llli.org
La Leche League International is proud to present its 2003 World Walk Logo. To see for yourself, simply click on the following http://www.lalecheleague.org/walk.html
4. FACTS ABOUT BREASTFEEDING UPDATE
The Center for Breastfeeding Information is working on the new 2003 "Facts about Breastfeeding." There is plenty of new research on the benefits of human milk and breastfeeding -- it's just a matter of reading through and making the best selections.
5. POSTER SESSION LAST CALL
This is the last call for Abstract Submission for the 2003 LLLI International Conference Poster Sessions. Please visit www.lalecheleague.org/03conf/poster.html or email Rebecca Magalhaes at RMagalhaes at llli.org for more information.
6. Alumnae Sponsored LLLI Conference Activities, July 2-6, 2003, San Francisco
All LLLI Conference attendees are invited to join the Alumnae in the following:
**July 2: Viansa Winery Tour and Dinner -- a wonderful oppotunity to visit with friends and enjoy good food and good wine in a setting of ambiance at Viansa Winery and Italian Markeplace in Sonoma Valley
**July 4-6: Rejuvenation Activities -- take a short break from regular conference sessions and choose from a variety of activities intended to fill your heart, tone your body, and renew your tired spirit. Included will be early morning walks and pool aerobics, massage, Tai Chi, Feng Shui, a scrapbooking party, and more. You don't need to register for these activities in advance of the conference. Schedules of these offerings will be available at the conference.
**July 4: Afternoon Tea -- Thanks for the Memories and "We Remember" -- this magnificent musical afternoon tea will feature a walk down memory lane with the seven LLLI Founders as special guests. Please note: This award is not intended to recognize someone for good work for La Leche League, but for achievements beyond LLL work. That is not to say that the award would never be given to a great active Leader, but, the intent was to show how LLL Leaders move on to impact their world in ways beyond LLL.
8. LEADER RECOGNITION PINS
As a way to honor LLL Leaders and their commitment to La Leche League, the Alumnae Association will have Leader Recognition pins at the LLLI Conference for all Leaders of 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, and 20 years. Leaders who have been active for 25 years or more will receive special recognition at the Afternoon Tea on July 4th. These pins are generously funded by the Switzer family.
