The La Leche League Web site brings you breastfeeding information, news from LLLI and much more -- here's what we've added in the past month or so:

*Online registration for the 2003 Seminar for Physicians is now available.

* We have recently received two translations of Frequently Asked Questions files in Chinese, from Taiwan. This is the start of a growing new collection for us, and we hope they will be useful to mothers who can read Chinese as well as to those who help Chinese speaking mothers with breastfeeding.

*Fifteen articles from the January-February 2003 edition of NEW BEGINNINGS, LLLI's member publication, have been uploaded. Highlights include an article on deep breast pain and one on comfort objects and the breastfed baby.

*The Center for Breastfeeding Information features a new research article each month, including an abstract of the article. This month's featured article is "Contemporary trends in infant feeding research." By Penny Van Esterik. Annu Rev Anthropology 2001;31:257-78. Read about it, then browse through past features here:

*The February-March 2003 issue of LEAVEN, LLLI's publication for Leaders is also now available online. Highlights include an article on gastroesophogeal reflux disease (GERD) in breastfed babies, and information on new content in the revised BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK.

*Also of interest to LLL Leaders, we have a new meeting idea on Advantages of Breastfeeding for Mothers, which is particularly well written and interesting! After reading this one, check out all our meeting ideas (Leader password required):

The LLLI Alumnae Association is proud to announce the recipients of their 2003 award, Lysa Parker and Barbara Nicholson, founders of Attachment Parenting International. This award is given to LLL Leaders, active or retired, who have demonstrated excellence in personal, professional, or volunteer accomplishments, and who are recognized as leaders in their fields of endeavor. Building on their LLL experience, Lysa and Barbara have created an organization whose mission is to promote parenting methods that create strong, healthy, emotional bonds between children and their parents.

Through education, support, advocacy and research, API seeks to strengthen families and increase awareness of the importance of secure attachment, ultimately helping to reduce or prevent child abuse, behavioral disorders, criminal acts and other serious social problems. To learn more on their accomplishments, see

10. The 5th WORLD ASSEMBLY 2003

Thursday, July 3

from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM (8.30 to 16.00)

Theme: "LLL in the Future -- Co-Constructing the LLL of Our Dreams."

Leaders and Leader Applicants from around the world are cordially invited to attend the World Assembly, a gathering where Leaders meet to discuss ideas for the future development of La Leche League.

At 8.30 AM (08.30) we register and choose our morning small discussion groups by topic. At 9 AM (09.00) the morning programme starts with voices and images:

*LLL Around the World -- Where we are Today*

Then, Lynne Coates, Chairman of the LLLI Board, gives an *Overview of LLLI's renewal*, with co-panellists from the Board and the Formal Agreements Workgroup.

We do a visualisation exercise and take a break, then move into small group discussions - topics chosen or created by participants at registration.

Lunch 12.30-2 PM (12.30-14.00) is with other participants (or friends and family) - find your own with list of restaurants.

In the afternoon, the morning groups will mix into newly allocated small groups and report their morning's work to their new colleagues. An appreciative enquiry topic then focuses the afternoon discussions. We each record our day's learnings for all to share.

A little music ends the day!

The results of the day's small group discussions will be used to inform Board thinking in the coming years. Join us in a celebration of all our diversity and strength!

For information regarding registration or any other questions, please contact the following members of the World Assembly Team:

Welda Hoerz (English/German/French)
