Ruth Pantland was passionately committed to La Leche League for over 28 years. She became an LLL Leader after going to meetings in Boksburg, South Africa and loved to see mothers gaining confidence as they nurtured their babies.
She joined the Leader Department, then became Coordinator of Leader Accreditation in South Africa. Ruth enjoyed affirming and encouraging people and supporting them in new steps. She joked that she had five children to try out the new ideas!
Next she spent five years as Regional Administrator of Leader Accreditation for Africa, Asia, and Middle East. Her colleagues valued her quiet, confident optimism, her calm and inner strength, and her gentle sense of humour. Her wisdom and her love were an inspiration and a comfort to all those with whom she came into contact. She cared deeply about mothering through breastfeeding and reaching out to more women through LLL.
After moving to Great Britain in 2004 Ruth was invited to become the Director for Leader Accreditation Department, GB. She was with us such a short time but her loss will be great.
Ruth brought so many special qualities to her work with LLL. She leaves the world a far better place for her having been here. She touched the lives of so many, and will continue to do so through the Leaders she helped to accreditation and the mothers she supported and encouraged.
Ruth passed away after a short but brave battle with bowel cancer. She leaves a husband, Andrew, five children, and a grandchild. They wish LLL to be the beneficiary of any gifts given in her memory.
