Every three months, our La Leche League (LLL) Group has a special "members only" gathering. Whether we invite only mothers and children, or the entire family, we always have a delicious meal and relaxing conversation. In the past, our Group has promoted these events as an additional perk to becoming a member. However, the Leaders of our Group decided to take this one step further!
At the last Airport Area LLL "members only" event, we decided to invite all mothers who had contacted our Group or had come to any of our Series Meetings during the year. We designed the invitation as a "Let the Leaders Cook and Learn More about LLL Membership!" lunch. We wanted all the mothers to have a chance to attend to learn more about the importance of membership, and to interact with our current members.
Our Group is fortunate in that we have three Leaders. One Leader opened her home and prepared most of the meal. Another Leader brought a delicious assortment of desserts. The third Leader took care of the email invitations and brought a hearty soup!
We had quite a unique mix of mothers attending including two local lactation consultants, a few new mothers, some mothers of many, and even a grandmother. We feasted on chicken lasagna, vegetarian lasagna, mixed greens salads, specialty breads, and squash soup. Assorted teas, coffee, and refreshing ice-water complimented the delectable meal. Although the children were welcome to those foods, we also offered some natural nut butters and apples to make sandwiches and snacks. Lovely desserts completed our meal along with a few raffle items that were donated by local businesses.
Letting the Leaders cook is a wonderful opportunity to engage mothers who may be "on the fence" about LLL membership. It is also a great chance to network and recruit help for your Group's volunteer jobs. Growing your membership base and cultivating future members ultimately supports your Group, your community, and all of La Leche League International!
