Report from the LLLI Board Meeting
July 19 - 20, 2007
Chicago, Illinois, USA

Marcia Lutostanski
Secretary, LLLI Board of Directors
From LEAVEN, Vol 43 No. 4, October-November-December 2007, p. 78

Abstract: The LLLI Board of Directors met July 19 and 20, 2007 before the [La Leche League] International Conference and took action on the following topics: we elected a new Board member and proposed a change to the LLLI Bylaws. Bylaws changes take two readings; the July meeting was the first reading of the proposed change.

Nominating Committee

New Board Member

The Nominating Committee presented Edward Savage of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA to serve as a member-at-large until elections at the next Annual Session. Ed was elected to the LLLI Board.

Proposed Bylaws Change

That the Bylaws Article VIII Committees Section 4. Nominating Committee b. Duties, which reads:

"The Nominating Committee shall consider the qualifications of all candidates for the Board proposed by members of the Board, Zones, staff, other members of LLL, or by the Nominating Committee. Names submitted for consideration of the Committee shall be accompanied by a statement of qualifications and shall be received five months prior to the Annual Session. The Nominating Committee shall also prepare a list of candidates for each Board office, accompanied by a statement of responsibilities and qualifications."

Be amended to:

"The Nominating Committee shall consider the qualifications of all candidates for the Board proposed by members of the Board, Zones, staff, other members of LLL, or by the Nominating Committee. Names submitted for consideration of the committee shall be accompanied by a statement of qualifications and shall be received two months prior to the Annual Session. The Nominating Committee shall also prepare a list of candidates for each Board office, accompanied by a statement of responsibilities and qualifications."

Rationale:

The five-month lead time [advance notice] is no longer needed due to the speed of email communication.

The LLLI Board of Directors thanks the 2007 International Conference planners for a job well done and we thank all of those who were able to attend the Conference. Over 3,000 people [update 3,580] from 48 [update: 44] countries attended the Conference. The Conference was an appropriate ending to the 50th anniversary celebration and an enthusiastic beginning to our next 50 years.
