A Magical Moment
It is late afternoon andThe January sun casts its golden spell
Across the room.
I begin to rock and you begin
to nurse.
We are one again, an ancient union.
As you swallow my milk
I can feel you growing in my arms
As you once grew in my belly.
You drift into a safe slumber,
Deep and trusting.
My breast becomes a pillow,
My stomach the bed,
My arms your blanket.
I savor this magical moment
And realize how blessed I am.

Of Mother and Son
Marc Evan-Toddler!
Runs fast, plays hard,
Always one step ahead.
Eats dirt, skins his knees,
Attempts belly flops,
Thinking Sadie-kitty will catch him.
Pushes ahead as I chase behind.
Tomorrow - ho!
Marc Evan-Afternoon.
Wraps his arms around me, smiles big,
Latches on in one smooth gentle motion.
Closes eyes, serenely concentrates;
We are one.
Transported back to that first night,
This nursling's face
Is still newborn.
Marc Evan - Asleep.
Inhales. Exhales.
His body has melted into mine;
His legs are dangling, torso slumped.
Sweet suspended bliss.
Pushing forward and remembering back
Come together here,
In this moment
Of Mother and Son.
