Schaumburg, IL (December, 2001) -Is there a pregnant woman or breastfeeding mom on your holiday gift list? While a mother who is breastfeeding was born with all of the equipment she needs to breastfeed her baby, she may appreciate gifts specifically chosen to show your support of her decision to breastfeed.

Since information about breastfeeding helps mothers off to a smooth start, books and videos about breastfeeding are a logical choice. Good bets for great information are the classic guides: The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding and Breastfeeding Pure and Simple or the two informative videos: Breastfeeding Your Baby: Positioning and A Healthier Baby by Breastfeeding.

Because new moms will be spending a lot of time holding their little bundle of joy, comfort is important. While a rocking chair is on the wish list of many new moms, a breastfeeding support pillow is a great gift for additional comfort. These specially designed pillows, which can be anchored to the mom, help keep the baby in correct nursing position while at the same time preventing shoulder and neck stress. They come in many different designs with some pillows even featuring extra pockets for supplies.

While nursing her baby a new mother might enjoy listening to a specially produced CD or cassette that either feature songs devoted to the breastfeeding mother and baby or
one that teaches breathing and relaxation techniques. Two possible selections are Only My Mama: Songs for Families with Nursing Babies and A Quiet Time for New Mothers: Ways to Relax and Rejuvenate.

If mother is returning to work outside the home while she is breastfeeding her baby, she
may want to consider using a nursing pump. Pumps come in all styles and prices from simple mechanical models to more elaborate electrical styles. Other accessories for the employed nursing mother include specially designed coolers that have room for a pump and containers of mother's milk.

La Leche League International, the world's foremost authority on breastfeeding, is a nonprofit, non-sectarian organization that provides breastfeeding information, encouragement, education and mother-to-mother support around the world.
