Media Release: International Year of Volunteers: A message from the LLLI Action and Development Department
As you may be aware, the United Nations proclaimed 2001 the International Year of Volunteers (IYV). The UN created National Committees in many countries to help disseminate and encourage activities related to the IYV throughout the world. This is a good opportunity for all of us to get the word out about LLLI and share our knowledge and experience with other organizations. You might want to contact the National Committee in your country to share and exchange information with them. You can find details on whom to contact if you go to the IYV website: www.iyv20001.org. Press here to go directly to the National Committee page: www.iyv2001.0rg/cfapps/queries/nat_com/nat_com1.cfm. If you do contact your National Committee, it would be wonderful if you could let your support person know, and then for her to let us know. We would love to hear about your successful endeavors!
On the IYV website
you will find various activities that are being organized in celebration
of this year. One activity that some of you might be interested in is
submitting volunteer stories. These stories can be anything related
to the experiences you have had as a LLLI volunteer. All stories submitted
will be posted on the IYV website. You can also submit photographs if
you wish. If you are interested in sending in a story, please email
it to nataliasmith@att.net.mx
and she will facilitate getting it on the website for you.
