World Breastfeeding Week Bookstore Display Idea
[This letter was used in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, USA, but could also be used for in many other contexts. When a bookstore owner responded, the Group prepared this list of recommended books for them to display. Be sure to let your District Advisor or other support Leader approve it before you use these ideas in your area! Thanks to Candace Hill for the idea.]
Dear Bookstore Owner (substitute real name),
Thousands of breastfeeding families, their supporters, and health care providers around the world will participate in the eighth annual La Leche League International World Walk for Breast-feeding, to be held locally in Evanston on Saturday, August 8th. Our walk will be held during World Breastfeeding Week as proclaimed by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action in conjunction with the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
There are currently five La Leche League groups on the North Shore, from Evanston to Deerfield, working together as a chapter to provide breastfeeding information and support to local families. One of the first suggestions that La Leche League Leaders make is for new mothers to purchase The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, now in its sixth revised edition. This book has sold more than two million copies over nearly 40 years. It is with calm assurance that we can tell a mother over the phone that she can find this book at her local [INSERT BOOKSTORE NAME].
Would you please consider mounting a book display in honor of World Breastfeeding Week during the first week of August? There are so many excellent books available now for the nursing mother. By featuring them on a table or window you will be a visible support to all women who are nursing, have nursed or plan to nurse their babies.
