World Walk for Breastfeeding
Promotion at Women's Businesses
World Breastfeeding Week is an opportunity for outreach and fundraising.
Do you recall the little boxes at cash registers promoting a cause/asking for a couple of dollars? Using that promotion tool, combined with World Breastfeeding Week (or I'd propose the whole month of August), target lingerie stores where people with breasts are. Some stores (for example, Victoria's Secret, or even the lingerie section of Department Stores) might allow a box by the cash register. How about a booth for a half a day at the mall in front of such a store?
How about the same little box centered in a book display promoting breastfeeding at local book stores, libraries, etc.?
How about hair-salons, where mainly women are the clientele? Day spas, too. Salons can further show their support by donating a portion of the day's profits. Women's fitness centers would be a great spot, too. Maternity stores could be targeted. If you are lucky enough to have a breastfeeding apparel store where you live, it would be an ideal place to locate a box. What are other woman-centered businesses?
My bank supports Relay for Life. LLL goes hand-in-hand with breast cancer prevention, so it's worth asking banks to support us, too. Maybe they'd even consider matching pledges donated by clients.
Finally, this year we're doing the tea bags with letters (see "tea bag letter" idea). Next year maybe we can do Forget-Me-Not seed packets, buying them in advance on great discount, asking those who have benefited to remember us with their pledges.
